Amandola is a small medieval town located on the eastern side of the Sibillini Mountain National Park and on the orographic left of the Tenna river at 550 meters a.s.l. The country owes its name to the almond plant that was once supposed to excel in the area. It represents one of the most important historical and cultural centers of the Sibillini Mountains. It is also characterized by an environmental and landscape heritage of great value for the multiplicity of the landscapes present: the rugged and wild mountains, the valleys drawn by rivers and the small well-set villages are the elements that make it extraordinary.
The historic center, which is accessed through a cressed door, is rested on three hills and consists of civil and religious architecture, imposing and sumptuous palaces, hidden and pretty alleys. From the Belvedere you can have a wonderful view of the eastern side of the park. Considered by good reason the ‘east door’ of access to the Sibillini Mountains National Park, with the Anthropogeographical Museum, offers the opportunity to know all the aspects that make up the environment, then having the opportunity to find and observe them in the territory. Housed in the premises of the Former Church the Collegiate Church, the Museum testifies to a now inseparable link between the Sibillini Mountains National Park and Amandola.
Amandola is renowned for the fine white truffle that comes from its woods and is also a production area of the pink Apple of the Sibillini Mountains, a Slow Food garrison.
In autumn, “Diamonds at the Table” is held – Fiera del Trufufo Bianco Pregiato dei Sibillini. For almost twenty years, the historic center has been animated with food and wine stands full of truffle-scented dishes and traditional dishes.
Among the recurring holidays we remember the Carnival de li Paniccia ‘and, at the end of August, the ancient historical re-enactment of the Canestrelle.
The town, in a distant past important center of production of wool fabrics, offers a flourishing handicrafts and services for mountain tourism, such as mountain biking and hiking. Lake San Ruffino is an additional resource for lovers of the open air and for practicable sports.
