Concerts, organetto workshops, popular dance and itinerant music and under the stars. It is the engaging “menu” of the second edition of the Saltarello Folk Festival PitriĆ² mmia.
Born as a traditional courtshage dance of Central Italy, the saltarello is particularly widespread in the Marche region. With unique local variants, it is characterized by a fast rhythm in 6/8 or 2/4 and is mainly danced in pairs. The first written documentation dates back to the 14th century. In 1455 it was described as a rustic dance by the dance master Antonio Cornazzano. Pioneering were the transcriptions of Giovanni Ginobili, contained in the volumes of the “Canti popolareschi piceni”, written together with the Macera composer Lino Liviabella.
