Profile
The town of Pollenza is an enchanting village of medieval origin a few kilometers from Macerata, little known by tourists but full of stories and secrets to discover. Its position makes it a privileged point to enjoy the panorama that ranges from north to south, from the Gran Sasso to the Sibillini to the San Vicino and the Conero. It is precisely this strategic location that has made it an important place since Roman times. In fact, here stood the ancient Pollentia, on the road that led to the important Temple dedicated to the Goddess Bona, in the Luigi where today stands the Abbey of Rambona. After the barbaric invasions, the Frankish leader Milone wanted to rebuild the village that in his honor was renamed Monte Milone, a name that remained in use until 1862 when the municipality resumed the ancient name of Pollenza.
The recent history of the municipality is closely linked to the tradition of the construction and restoration of furniture, activities that in the past saw a large number of occupied. Today the active shops are an excellence in the recovery of fine and antique furniture and visiting them offers a fascinating insight into a work that has remained almost unchanged over the centuries.
Few people know instead that before the woodworking in the town of the Marche there was a flourishing production of decorated ceramics. The so-called Montemilonese school was characterized by floral motifs with a characteristic blue color. Today a collection of these ceramics is kept in the Civic Museum of Palazzo Cento, within which there is also a collection of crucifis from all over the world and belonged to Cardinal Cento. Also in the civic museum it is possible to admire a valuable model that faithfully reproduces the historic center, the work of a local carpenter.
