Profile
Serrapetrona is a small village in the province of Macerata, located 500 m above sea level. The term Serra, of Lombard origin, indicates a fortified habit with barrier functions in defense of the beginning of a stone Petrona valley.
You should visit: the Museum of Man, with tools and materials used by the ancient peasant tradition and housed in some premises of the restored castle of the Lombard age; the Museum of Oil; the Museum of Gold and Silvers of the Church of San Francesco, where about 20 pieces are exhibited among ostenstori, chalices, planets, stoles, crucifixes made between the XVI and eighteenth centuries of property of the parish of San Clemente; the Pinacoteca Nazionale d’Arte Sacra Contemporanea, which ranges from the classical to the expressionist image. On display are works of painting, graphics and sculpture, also varied in techniques and materials, from oil on canvas to watercolor on paper, from lithography to engraving, from bronze to plexiglas.
Not far from Serrapetrona is Lake Caccamo, an ideal place for sport fishing, rowing and canoeing.
Serrapetrona is part of the national association of wine cities; the territory is renowned above all for the production of Serrapetrona DOC and Vernaccia di Serrapetrona DOCG.
Vernaccia is a rare and much appreciated wine: renowned writers, such as Mario Soldati, and illustrious food gastronomers have celebrated its virtues. The excellence of this natural red sparkling wine, derived from a harvest in which the grapes are dried on racks before being squeezed, has not prevented its production from always remaining very limited. Drunk young, the fragrance of sparkling wine, sweet or lovable, is seized in a fairly large, non-dispersive glass, at a temperature of 12°-14° C, which favors the volatilization of the odorous elements.
